We had the good fortune of connecting with Dandrell Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dandrell, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted freedom! When you have your own business, you have freedom to make decisions and choices. I can choose my own shift, my own designs, and most importantly, my own salary for my labor. It’s the best feeling ever!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bad Clothes Company is a T-shirt brand that caters to the culture and humor of black people in America. We create apparel that is nostalgic of black sitcoms and films. We also release graphic tees that reflect what’s trending in modern times! As a company, we’re proud of our partnerships with Amazon and Sears, which helps us reach a wider audience! I started Bad Clothes Company because I wanted to wear apparel that showcased my sense of comedy. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find humor T-shirts for the black community. So, I decided to create my own company, where I not only designed the tees but distributed them as well. It wasn’t a smooth road, because starting an apparel line can be complicated. You have to come up with ideas and graphics that aren’t sold anywhere else; just so your brand can stand out. You also have to find ways to print and distribute your clothing. In the beginning, I handled the graphics, production, inventory, returns, and shipping. That in itself can be chaotic! Not to mention, the copyright and trademark of your brand! There will be lots of bumps along the way, but it’s well worth it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You have to experience Santa Monica and its views! From the ocean to the mountains to the restaurants, it’s all dope! That area really captures the essence of the LA vibe or lifestyle.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out all the Bad Clothes customers and supporters!
