We had the good fortune of connecting with David Perl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want others who know me to remember feeling free, uplifted or inspired in some way. This relates to every aspect of life whether it is professional, family, friends, strangers or a “chance” encounter. There’s a quote that sits on my desk, written one hundred years ago from an amazing Rabbi, which says “Let the good in me connect with the good in others until all the world is transformed through the compelling power of love.” A lofty goal to attain but one I strive for daily.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s not easy to describe in just a few sentences how I went from being paid $6.75 an hour at a coffee shop in my mid-20’s to having my own small business for the last fourteen years at the age of 44. For me it starts with humility and gratitude. I love being around and working with dogs. It’s ironic because I was terrified of dogs up until I was 18. I’m really excited for this year when I plan on Shadowing for an amazing Dog Trainer I know and hope to become a Trainer myself. I look forward to helping owners with their pets in any way I can.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Short camping trips to Central and Northern California are the greatest but if I were to do a staycation I’d hang by the coast. I live three miles from the beach so going there is pretty easy and convenient. Whether it’s going to the closest beach or driving North on PCH I love to hang on the beach, get in the ocean to bodysurf and surf and hike trails in the Santa Monica Mountains. Live music at smaller places is always a good option. And, if it’s summertime, going to see the Los Angeles Dodgers play in Dodgers Stadium. I enjoy a relaxed, chill time which allows me to be more present with my friend.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve gotten to where I am and who I am thanks to a tremendous amount of people. It’s hard to single out anyone in particular. I am a product of all my experiences and the people along the way. So Give Thanks to my family, support system and community. I am just an extension of them.
