We had the good fortune of connecting with Holly Gresto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Holly, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Optimism and determination.
I have always been a very optimistic and determined person in my personal life growing up. Carrying these traits into entrepreneurship has been absolutely vital to my success as a business woman. Being a business owner is TOUGH, to say the least… without positive thinking and drive, it would be very easy to get discouraged and to back out of uncomfortable or less than ideal situations.
My ability to think for the better and to never stop pursuing new ideas is the reason I got to where I am today.
What should our readers know about your business?
Dare to DIY was originally intended to be a DIY (do-it-yourself) Workshop Studio. I opened my space back in March of 2020, and dealing with COVID-19 as a business owner was very tough. After being closed for about the remainder of 2020, I had to rework my business plan in order to stay afloat and to keep my business operating. That is when I began hosting small business shopping markets. My love for these markets stemmed from being able to help other small businesses thrive. Hosting markets are an amazing way to not only help vendors gain more revenue, but to also bring together like-minded women in business to network and to make new friends. Fast forward to February 2021, my good friend Michelle and I created a new business together… Creative Babe Market.
Creative Babe Market is a traveling Orange County market taking place multiple times a month at all different locations. Our idea behind Creative Babe Market was to being able to bring small businesses together, but on a much larger scale. We host our markets at local breweries and event venues, so that our events are more of an outing than just a shopping event. We strive to make an experience with including food, drinks, a photo booth, and giveaways for our customers. Our business plan with Creative Babe Market is to expand throughout California, and eventually even out-of-state.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The FIFTH Rooftop Bar in Anaheim
Wild Goose Tavern in Costa Mesa
Huntington Beach Bonfire Pits
Ravello Osteria Italian Restaurant in Monterey Park
Old Towne Placentia for Mexican Food lunch & coffee at Golden State Coffee Roasters
Angels Game & Breweries (Golden Road & Karl Strauss)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Being the owner of two different businesses… friends and family have been a constant and amazing support system for many different reasons.
First, being a young entrepreneur… my parents were there for me right after college graduation in support of me quitting my full-time job to become an entrepreneur for my career. There was never any doubt or concern from them – only love, support, and even their time, and their energy to help me get where I am today with Dare to DIY.
Second, starting my new business, Creative Babe Market, back in February of 2021, my business partner and good friend, Michelle, has been an absolute rock to lean on. Being an entrepreneur is not easy. Of course, friends and family are there for you to help you get through struggles and to be someone to vent to… but when it comes down to it, they never really know exactly what you’re going through and they can’t lend the assistance that you may truly need. That is why I am beyond grateful for my business partnership with Michelle. Being able to succeed with my friend, being able to travel with my friend for business, and just having that go-to boss babe in general to brainstorm with or to decompress with during tough times, makes all the hardships of being a business owner so worth it. Business partnerships can either be a complete disaster… or a beautiful thing – and I got so lucky meeting Michelle and starting Creative Babe Market with her just a few short months ago, because what we have going is most definitely a beautiful thing and a successful, striving business. I am beyond excited to see where this business venture will take us… because I know we will go so far with our experience, drive, and most importantly, our passion.
