We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaac aka “Izzy” Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaac aka “Izzy”, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I quote that guides my daily that my dad always use to say is “You live to learn, then you learn how to live” & it always stuck because just observing my life I try to constantly learn new things that will prepare for what’s to come. Given life is unpredictable, but learning from what comes your way will constantly have you upgrading yourself and that’s the beauty of living
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an artist I always tell people you’ll always be able to see where my head is at by the art I produce and what I draw inspiration from. Storytelling of life & Fashion through movement, photography, & cinema is what I specialize in. The art I’ve done in my career since I’ve started reflect that from Tv Shows to Fashion Shows, from Campaigns to Music Videos. I know for a fact I’ve gotten this far from being really selective about what I absorb & who I let around me & have an influence on me. My closest friends & mentors guided me & having such authentic sources of inspiration will never steer you wrong. I think also knowing who I am, being a Nigerian/Ghanaian man who was raised by African women & powerful Father, I’ve always known my power and strength & having a strong moral compass with discipline and great discernment will take you far in any field you find yourself in. A lot of the lessons that’s helped me on this journey come from having Sickle Cell, dealing with constant pain and having to make flexibility a main part of your lifestyle is crucial from a young age. Understanding that you’re different and in that comes a responsibility to yourself and your loved ones. You have to be strong enough to endure but tender enough to accept things that may come your way, from surgeries to countless hospital admissions, this disease built me into a fortress with pillars that could withstand anything because it’s been through so much
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My and my best friend are a lot a like, damn near twins so this is easy. Knowing us We probably start by linking to go to the Harry Potter store then maybe thrifting especially if we have a shoot coming up or concept together produce. Then getting lunch, preferably at a vegan spot because of me. We’d get a workout in at a park or at the crib. Another day would consist of sessioning or playing the switch or ps4 with ordering soul food nearby. Rest of the week could be rehearsals together or apart depending on our schedule & catching a marvel or dc or anime film. (We are heavy nerds/geeks) but through it all we’d have long talks about our goals or just life in general
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For me my journey wouldn’t exist without my two mentors I met in 2018 “Franco The Artist” & “Najla Gilliam” I’ve learned countless lessons from them beyond movement. Life, artistry, independence, creativity I can trace directly a lot of what inspires me to them/ from them. Also my best friends Ethan & Noah are like the 2 people on both sides of my shoulder that constantly keep my going, They’ve seen my laugh, cry, struggle & persevere. I’m forever grateful for them especially being there for me when my Father passed in 2020. Last & most importantly my family, my 5 sisters Edna, Fiona, Joy, Naomi, Esther & my parents shaped me from how i talk to how I dress, how I treat people. How I grow. I’d like to say I’m a culmination of all of them especially my parents and youngest sister Esther aka “Star”
