We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Frizzelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaiah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor that I keep coming back to is authenticity. Once you understand how colorful you are as a person because of your experiences( and you appreciate that), it changes things. It’s not about being liked or having a bunch of followers, instead it’s about connection, honest connection. We all need motivation or a little reminder to take better care of ourselves.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
You always hear that phrase “art imitates life”, well I’ve taken that a lot more literal over the years. As an actor I’m able to reference my own experiences to add to a character. As a writer and podcaster, my experiences influence what I write or speak about- Even the horror stories I write are created from a random personal experience. As a fitness trainer, how I take care of myself is how I will take care of someone else. In terms of podcasting, I created a one of a kind hybrid of mental health and horror; Two of my favorite things in one place. The true take away for me is that people have said they’ve been able to heal because of an episode of mine or they look forward to some spooky horror tales on a Friday night. This podcast has held me accountable in my personal life; since I’m sharing my experiences, it’s vital that I practice what I preach. I’m proud of that. Life as an artist can be a challenging process. Sometimes you wonder if what you’re doing or putting out into the world has impact, but then you get back to work because what really matters is how important is the work to you and also your sincerity behind what you do. Authenticity breeds longevity. Keeping this in mind through out my journey keeps me coming back and keeps listeners coming back because the podcast has grown!!! I want to be the reason that someone chooses not to give up on their dreams, on their life, or simply on love for themselves. Life is challenging, experiences can be painful, but the space you take up and your story matter.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I do have some friends and family visiting soon-I can’t wait ! We all love the outdoors, so hiking trails are a must! I also have a sweet tooth, so hunting down some dessert spots are also high on the list! Magnolia Bakery, and Susie cakes are some good ones that remind me of back east. We are definitely going to take a drive along the coast, hit the beach, check out some spots to see the stars at night and eat our hearts out at some restaurants ( I cook a lot so I have to search out some places). I’d take them on the Universal tour as well as the Warner Bros Tour. My goal is that their time here is one of their best.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God and faith first. I’d also like to shout out my friends and family-at this point they’re one in the same. I can say with confidence this journey is not a smooth ride so the people you have along the way matter Tremendously!! Oh yea… Myself… I want to make sure I shout out my little self for continuing to just grow and show up. He’s a dope dude. The older I get the more I value my relationships and just do my best to take care of them properly. A simple “thank you for being present” or “I love you ” goes a long way. You’re a reflection of the company you keep and it’s safe to say these are some solid humans. Some people have chapters in your story, some a sentence, others are through out the entire book.
