We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Huizar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacob, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has been everything my business and life has been built off of. Moving from New Mexico to CA was a leap of faith. Three months into living here in California, the only contract I had with the company that moved me out fell apart. I had no clients, no business established, bills to pay and family to provide for. I risked everything I had to move and make it happen.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing in my art “sets me apart.” I don’t believe I’m more talented than anyone else. I’ve just been blessed with the ability to be consistent and be in the right rooms at the right time and word of mouth. What I believe truly “sets me apart” is my mindset and my relationship with Jesus. Challenges and obstacles have played a huge part in my story, those things have never defined me, THEY MADE ME. I’ve previously been divorced, faced eviction, lost my car, lost deals, lost money, lost my pride, fell hard, done stupid things, dealt with addiction…you name it. I’ve been through many roadblocks in life and business. Through all of this I realized my dyer need for God and not accomplishment. God is my foundation. I trust him in the midst of my uncertainty, He sustained me. What I want the world to know about my brand is what it means to truly be a “Rich Kid” it’s not money and opportunity. Being a “Rich Kid” means being surrendered to God, being a man or woman of your word and truly learning what it looks like to love people and ourselves.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Uhhhh…I have a wife and three kids. I don’t have bff’s haha! Just kidding…my wife is my best friend and she’s actually from L.A. and knows all the hotspots, but I’d say…
Breakfast : Met Her At A Bar
Lunch : The Rose (in Venice)
Dinner : Catch LA
Coffee : Verve
Views : Santa Monica pier
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my wife Jenna Huizar. I have gone through phases of success and have constantly placed my value in what I could achieve through accolades, praises of people and material things. My wife played a huge part of me understanding that true success isn’t just defined by what you do and what your known for, but by WHO you are and how you help build and invest in others. She changed the complete focus of my life and business and for that I am forever grateful. She’s also helped me to realized that slowing down helps to see the people around us with intentionality. That has translated into Investing in my children and being the best father to my sons on a whole new level. As a dad, I can say investment is the greatest gift we can give our children. We have the formative power to empower, equip and build our children up. My wife has without a doubt profoundly changed this in me.
