We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalen Parrish and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalen, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When thinking about risks a quote from high school comes to mind. “You miss 100% of the shots you never take”. I try to remember this quote each day in both my career and personal life. When it comes to pursuing your goals in any avenue there will always be risks involved, in order to progress you’ll have to take a couple shots.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
RNDTBL is a management company that focuses on discovering, developing, and supporting talent. I joined this great group of managers to be able to work together and use our resources to give opportunities to artists that aren’t always the first or second choice to the labels and/or A&Rs in the music industry. I got here because of hard work and dedication. I never have been the smartest person in the room or the most creative, but if you ask anyone I do not give up until the goal or solution is reached. It was not easy getting to this point in my life because nothing is handed to people that look like me. Being Black in mostly non-Black spaces you have to work twice as hard. The main lesson that I’ve learned along the way is to NEVER expect a handout or help, but never be afraid to ask for one. Currently on my music roster is the top producer, songwriter, and rapper, Malik Ninety Five from New Orleans. 17 year old singer, songwriter, and musician Saber Agnew from Indiana. As well as Brēdland which is a hip hop collective originating from Oregon, Texas, Indiana, and Ontario Canada. The diverse cast of members consist of producers, graphic designers, singers, photographers, rappers and more.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Leimert Park for the culture. Melrose for the shopping. Echo Park for the walking and conversation. And obviously the beach for serenity and peace.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have been the biggest influence on my life. They’ve motivated me throughout my upbringing and instilled confidence in me to handle any obstacle.
