We had the good fortune of connecting with James Anthony Morelos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James Anthony, how do you think about risk?
When you live intuitively risk doesn’t ever factor into your decisions in a real way. Still, there is always a moment in a new venture that I wake up thinking, “What did I get myself into”, but that doesn’t last long and the excitement quickly returns.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve produced makers markets for seven years staring in the Hudson Valley of NY with Phoenicia Flea and later expanding out west with Mojave Flea. Since Covid hit, we had to quickly pivot as the return of our public events are nowhere in sight. Many people who do what we do went digital, but we are interested in the personal connection of experiential retail. We decided to create a brick and mortar version of our marketplace in Downtown Palm Springs and so was born Mojave Flea Trading Post. It’s a 10,000 sq ft, fully realized department store of makers & merchants from Joshua Tree, the Coachella Valley + beyond.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, a lot of places are currently closed, but in the near future I hope everyone can stay at Ace Hotel & Swim Club, Villa Royale and The Rowan. Shop at: RTH, Thick as Thieves and The Shops at 1345. Eat at: Mr. Lyons, Workshop Kitchen + Bar and El Mirasol. Drink at Dead or Alive Bar, Hunter’s and Seymours. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My team: Brooks, Lee & Athena. They’re smart, cool and authentic individuals.
