We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarell Lavender and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarell, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Freedom was my main thought in the process. Freedom from monotonous work life strain and working 9 to 5 is not for me. In my mind I couldn’t wrap my head around doing the same work, the same way for the next 30+ years. I want to support myself while focusing on my passion. There’s a saying that states “ make money doing what you love and you will never work a day in your life”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my photography I do not edit my work from nature to people. I believe in getting it right the first time or taking the time to capture it correctly. When I do a photoshoot I ask men/woman what they might be insecure about and work around that insecurity. I’m proud that I can produce magazine quality photos without editing my photos. I got to where I got by lots of practice, reading up on photography, and asking photographers for constructive criticism or tips. One thing I learned is I can use flash even in daylight to even out the face if one side is getting more light then the other side. NaturesNaturalBlend is a blend between nature and a woman’s natural beauty..We have better lenses and equipment but still heavily rely on computer photo editing technologies to do the job. Photography in my opinion as a art form has become more computer based then camera based. My company goes against the grain when it comes to photoshopping. Understanding that trying to display perfection in someone that is imperfect can actually damage another individual’s psyche. I want to help build self confidence in women and men that you can be yourself and not what society wants you to be.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Visit-Different Japanese Gardens or reserves. Different beaches
Belmont shore, the pike, shoreline village,2nd street
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I want to thank Elohim for waking me up and keeping his arms of protection around me. Elohim has saved my life more then a few times. I want to thank my family and friends that supported my dream. The professional photographers that gave me constructive criticism to make me a better photographer. Keyana for referring me to shoutout.
