We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Muse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up surrounded by talented artists and having the encouragement and support of my family, allowed me to express myself through creativity and ultimately led me to where I am today.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art takes many forms and I enjoy a variety of creative mediums. I’ve always had a passion for horror culture so creature acting comes naturally. I have a unique talent where I can roll my eyes up or down so only the sclera is visible, which comes in handy for creepy creature effects. Spending many years as a high level competitive gymnast provided me with many tricks, flexibility, and strength that is key to performing successful stunts and creature moves. Photography is fairly new to my arsenal- but I absolutely love it! I create horror images using my creature acting talents. The images are 100% self created- I do the hair and makeup, wardrobe, modeling, photography, and digital editing. Getting to where I am today was not easy. Being self-taught, I have spent a substantial amount of time learning programs, watching tutorials, and playing around with equipment until I was proficient. Learning is an ongoing necessary process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While LA is full of fantastic restaurants, bars, museums, and other entertainment: I find the best places to be within nature surrounding the city. LA has extraordinary hiking trails in the mountains where you can experience wildlife while enjoying a view of the city. You can also experience the desert, snow-capped mountains, lakes, and spectacular beaches all enveloping the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Muses – my grandmother and grandfather who were outstanding artists and writers, and my family (especially my mom) for their constant encouragement and support.
