We had the good fortune of connecting with John & Krystal Hines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John & Krystal, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of our brand is continually creating memorable experiences for not only our clients but for everyone around us.
We feel that creating exciting and memorable experiences is one of the most important things in life, whether it’s individually or the ones you share with your friends and family.
It’s the experiences and memories that you create that makes our lives so fulfilled. We are lucky that we get the opportunity to create that for people on so many levels. That has always been the foundation of our brand and success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For the past 7 years we have operated our boutique events production company, Hinesight Productions. As a husband and wife team we produce a wide variety of events ranging from corporate events, destination weddings, product launch parties, Holiday Decor, to intimate private dinners in addition to consulting in VIP Concierge services.
We were doing extremely well, and in 2019 had our best year yet! Then our industry was hit hard, like many others, with the unexpected arrival of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our company came to a screeching halt. We went from a thriving small business to not knowing what the future would hold for our family.
At first, we were completely devastated but after a lot of time pondering the meaning of life in our pajama’s during lockdown, we finally started to focus in on what we could do to Pivot. We soon realized that everyone at home needed something to make them smile. People needed to have some human connection and a safe way to stay in touch. There was an overwhelming demand for new ways that people could still celebrate special occasions. So we decided to take all of our years of creating unique and memorable experiences and put them inside a sophisticated fun box! Now we are delivering smiles across the miles to friends, colleagues, corporate teams and families directly to their homes.
We are extremely proud to say we have delivered over 3000 experience based boxes so far and have most recently partnered with Marriott International as well as GUESS clothing brand to help in their efforts in keeping in touch with their partners and employees alike. Creating a new wave of corporate gifting experiences has been very rewarding for us. We feel what truly sets us apart is that we are able to utilize our expertise in the world of event planning, and have found a way to incorporate that knowledge into unique curated box experiences for any occasion.
This past year was incredibly challenging for us building a new company from the ground up in the midsts of a global shutdown, like many other small businesses trying to navigate what felt like a neverending roller coaster ride. We’ve managed to rely on our creativity and resilience to create something we are extremely excited to be able to offer both our existing clients as well as our new audience we have gained along this incredible journey!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is an exciting question for us because we absolutely love to show our beautiful city to our friends and family who are visiting from out of town, but as we all know there’s so much to do and see here in L.A. that it’s incredibly difficult to fit it all in…but here we go!!
In our opinion for the best L.A. experience our Itinerary would be: Not in any particular order-
Eat: One thing that never disappoints is an afternoon tour of DTLA- Grab Lunch at Grand Central Market which has an awesome food hall with something for everyone, personally we LOVE the Vegan Ramen at Ramen Hood and the Fairfax Breakfast Sandwich at EggSlut.
For Dinner, we would have to say either Delilah in Hollywood for some Celeb spotting or Sugarfish for some no nonsense mouth watering Sushi!!
Drink: We love the cocktail program Bar Clacson in DTLA offers. they Literally have the BEST Espresso Martini ever!! When we want to go somewhere for a fun atmosphere by the beach, we would have to say The Bungalow in Santa Monica at The Fairmont Hotel. It would be ideal if you had the time to follow up your bike ride along the pier or your walk on the 3rd street promenade with an afternoon cocktail at the Bungalow. If its a weekend and you want to have an exciting Sunday Funday then …The Abbey West Hollywood for Bottomless Mimosa and Drag Queen Brunch is a must!
Visit: We absolutely love to take our friends to the Griffith Observatory for a Hike or to take a selfie during golden hour with the Hollywood Sign as your backdrop – no photoshop needed. Another super fun thing to do is to find a Graffiti wall in the Arts District of DTLA with the famous Angel wings or a mural of Kobe Bryant for another L.A Selfie. We also love to take them on a stroll while window shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills so they can at least feel like they are Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. If we have time during their visit we LOVE to take in an outdoor concert at The Hollywood Bowl, there’s nothing like the energy you feel than when you see your favorite band play at the Bowl. Lastly, one of the absolute must things we do with our friends and family while they are visiting this amazing City of Angels we get to call home, is to rent a car and drive up the PCH during sunset then stopping off at Gladstones for a great cocktail and an amazing seafood tower!
This is a tough one because there’s soooo many great hangout spots we personally love, so for time sake here’s our favorites list: Malibu Cafe , Magic Castle or Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. If there’s time, take in a Dodger Game or Laker Game and check out our new Sofi Stadium home of The Rams and Chargers which will be hosting SuperBowl LVI. If you love Film and Television definitely go to a show taping or a backlot tour on one of the Studio Lots in Burbank.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As funny as it may sound we definitely have to give big Shoutout to Quarantine 2020! It allowed us the time and space in our lives to rethink what we do for a living, and to find a new creative way of doing business for the foreseeable future.
We would also like to thank our best friend and roommate, Manny Lehman, for supporting us fully and allowing us to build an entire fulfillment center inside our living room.
Lasty, we absolutely have to shout out our beautiful daughter, Tristyn Hines, for always providing us with an enormous amount of inspiration and enthusiasm.
