We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Shephard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, how do you think about risk?
Love this question because I believe the ceiling of a person’s potential is determined by the size of uncertainty they’re willing to tolerate. There’s a quote I like that goes: “The bigger your dreams, the bigger your tolerance for uncertainty must be.” And that’s because coloring outside the lines has always given us life’s best creations & inventions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself an artist because at the helm of it all, I am designing or better yet, curating a platform of fashion that bridges the gap between luxury and street luxury. Think Virgil Abloh but in commentary form. I always championed my background of growing up around Oakland’s essence but with 9-figure mentors, experiencing 5 years of LA’s lifestyle and just curiosity, i quickly realized how big the world was and how many weren’t communicating that for culture. Decided to pick my phone up & express those things and voilà… we’re here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I believe there are many places in the LA but I am a big privacy and aspirational person so I like lowkey, out the way environments that exude wealth like NOBU Malibu or somewhere in by the beach. There’s a bunch of restaurants/bars by the water that I enjoy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many pieces to my puzzle that have helped me get to this point. But I most definitely wouldn’t be here without my mother, my woman, and my manager. All women of African descent who have always wanted the very best for me, helped build my confidence, character & taste in every way. Wouldn’t be here without them!
