We had the good fortune of connecting with Khan Turgut and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khan, what inspires you?
When I moved to Berlin, I have realized that Turkey is my home, and so I started taking themes from Turkey! What I try to communicate is not a piece of clothing, neither sales! I am coming from
a culture and family where folks rise from their ashes. Where ever we go, whatever we do! For
the world we are narrow-minded folks with no “humanist culture” but here I am showing off my
culture. I am here to communicate that Anatolia is the future! I‘m here to communicate the richness of cultures, ethnicities and religions we have in the great Anatolia. Somewhere I can say
that 95% of my work is based and inspired of my homeland Anatolia/Turkey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am Khan, I am a Nonbinary person of color. I am a 22year-old Muslim Turkish newcomer designer and multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin/Istanbul. I identify myself as an ambassador of Central Anatolia! My mission is to show that fashion can be Anatolian, POC, Religious, Intense, Art, Islamic, Traditional or Political. As a creator, I always integrate politics and social crisis themes into my art and fashion. I am really proud of how far I have come so far! I am proud that I can give my Anatolian folks a platform where they have their international representation!
My journey started at a very young age! I was born in Hamburg and when I was around 11 we moved to Istanbul with my family! Afterwards the dream to be a desginer was born. When I was around 15 I started attending a weekend fashion school next to the high school. With 17 I had my first fashion show at the Bursa Fashion week. Afterwards I moved to Berlin and started studying at Atelier Chardon Savard. While studying I did internships for Paris fashion week and New York fashion week. Before graduating I builded my label and here we are today.

I have learned to just do it. I have learned that I am the only person who can stop me! And I have learned that If I truly believe in something I can truly persume it.

Guovarde is a “sustainable Anatolian non-binary high fashion” label based in Berlin/Istanbul/Los Angeles. Guovarde is a bridge between Turkey and the World. The biggest mission of the label is showing the culture, history and politics of Turkey in a very Contemporary/Innovative way. Gender does not exist in Guovarde! Many sustainable ways of creating such as upcycling, zero waste patterns or self-made Couture garments from trash makes Guovarde unique.

This is basically how I identify Guovarde. But I just want to let people know thats way more than that. Its a propaganda, its life, its empowerement and its a voice for the minorities.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to all of the creatives who supported and supports me in this journey. I would like to give a shoutout to all of my Anatolian folks who inspires me. And last but not least I would love to give a shoutout to my inner child. She is the main inspiration and power for any achievement in my life.
