We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Mangano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meg, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor behind my success is my ability to connect with people. This allows our work together to be more impactful and personal, as there is a higher level of comfort, trust, vulnerability and accountability.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
REJOOV is my private practice and consulting business. I work with every day incredible individuals, athletes, actors / musicians and teams. My two specialties are in Sports Dietetics and Functional Nutrition. Sports nutrition is really about helping athletes and individuals understand their personal needs for performance, recovery, health, injury reduction and career longevity. This entails nutrient timing, balance, hydration and energy demands. Functional nutrition is really looking at the whole person, from the inside out and connecting mind, body, and spirit. This looks at the deeper layers of what is going on for each individual, including their gut health, micro-biome, inflammation and how they are all connected to different aspects of their overall quality of life and health. I work with clients combining both of these specialties, or sometimes focusing just on one. There is much to consider when thinking about nutrition, health, lifestyle, and goals. I think it’s most important to remember that we are all unique individuals with unique needs and that is something that I enjoy the most about my practice ~ helping people identify those unique qualities and learn how to help them work in their favor to reach where they want to go, while enjoying the journey along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First thing we would do is hop on a bike and enjoy the day on the bike path along the beach…stopping for lunch at Venice Ale house and taking a dip in the Ocean. Next we would go hiking up in Malibu and have lunch or dinner at the Malibu Cafe. On the third day we would take in a concert at the Hollywood Bowl and another night catch a Clippers game at the Staples Center. A few days will be spent at the museums and another day visiting Griffith Observatory. From there take some road trips! Palm springs and Big Bear, here we come!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many incredible people that have played a role in my story and my success, it’s hard to choose one. I have to mention Athletes’ Performance (now EXOS) and my boss at the time, Amanda Carlson. They are the reason I moved to Los Angeles and in 2006 they were one of the few full-time employment opportunities that existed in the field of Sports Nutrition. As a company they were leaders in the field of Sports Nutrition and Amanda, one of the smartest professionals I know, helped to pave the path for Sports Dietetics to become a recognized field and specialty (CSSD – Board Certified as a Sports Dietitian). Together they played an important role in my career and afforded me opportunities to travel the world and work with teams and athletes from a variety of countries.
