We had the good fortune of connecting with OG VERN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi OG, how do you think about risk?
I thank risk taking is very much so part of the journey. It makes for a cool ass story when its time for the documentary about your life. My whole thing with taking risks is you really never know what can come out of it, its like if it dont work its a lesson and if it do its a W. That sound like a win/win to me. Risks have player a huge role because certain risks I took put me in certain peoples vision. I appreciate every risk. ha.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to think of my rap as a type of lifestyle rap. i grew up heavy on Wiz and Curren$y and its like they was into just talking about they life on the track. Its cool because I like to think im cool enough or do enough cool shit to rap and say the exact things other people can relate to or just vibe out and visualize the words. The thing that excites me most about rap is being able to put my thoughts into words and performing on the stage. Performing is the best part to me, getting to see people rock out to your shit live is like a show in itself honestly. Like they watching me and im watching them. I got to be where I was by doing shows around Columbus, going out to certain things and rubbing shoulders with people, and really just setting goals to get what I wanted. It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t really hard, when its something you want you dont even mind. I learned some real good lessons along the way, my favorite one would have to be not having expectations cause that brings disappointments. I really just do this for the love so I do it and just go on about my business and get to the next stuff. If I got to a point where im worldwide I would just want the world to know that I worked hard to get there, this is my passion and dream and its something I would tak advantage of.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend came to visit Columbus i’d take them to all my favorite rooftop spots (antiques, lumin skybar) if its not raining. Probably take them around and give a full fledge tour of downtown, show them the short north probably stop by Local Bar for some drinks. I really dont do much but hang with friends, do music and be a dad so eventually we’ll end up somewhere smoking watching music videos.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yeah, i want to give a big shoutout to my parents, my friends, the guys down at 129 and anybody else who believed in me from the jump. my parents always supported everything I wanted to do producing, photography and finally with rap. Im almost positive I can be like Im boutta be one of them people who go festivals and do the flame throwing stuff and they’ll tell me go for it. My friends are crazy, we all started out doing stuff for man and it turned into something crazy. My DJ Zelus been my homie for years before music he started DJing and I found out and it was up from there. I met Hakim through a mutual friend and thats been my friend ever since. I love my friends cause we more like family its real close knit.
