We had the good fortune of connecting with Ola Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ola, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to start a brand that I could build on. Event planning is one part to my business. There are other layers I’m working on.
Creative Arts has always been an interest of mine. However, when I worked in a acute hospital setting with adolescences suffering with mental health, I was able to explore creative art more. I started art committee and me, the residents and some staff would cover the dull hospital wakes with as much home made art as possible. We designed bulletin boards, backdrops and we even built a fire place for Christmas and flipped the cafeteria into a full on “Santa’s helpers” work space. I loved every minute of it . I knew when the time was right I would explore more.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Event planning and designing allows me to explore depths of creativity I didn’t know I had in me. I think what sets me apart from others that there are no limits on what I can create. If I can envision it I can recreate what I see. I’m most excited about working with clients who have the same freedom. I can’t wait to see where my business will lead me. Taping into the freedom I’ve found to create wasn’t easy. I was scared and often times doubted myself. But nothing motivates a person more when other people doubt you. That lit a fire in me that I can’t describe. Now I’ll tag any celebrity, DM anyone or whichever to say hey check me out. I know what I can do and I have to keep that energy.
I’ve learned to always bet on myself. I can’t lose if I do that. I protect my energy and stay centered. I want the world to know that I will embark on other journeys. PFE will not only be known as Party Fantasies Events but it will be synonymous to other business ventures.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think I would take my best friend or anyone to Malibu cafe for lunch.? It’s so beautiful and the drive up the coast is amazing. Nobu for dinner or Maestros and for cocktails maybe a rooftop situation. California has the best weather, so cocktails on the rooftop is a must. Also, wine tasting is amazing on the weekends and I love Faulkner Winery. This place is amazing because you can personalize your experience. I went with a group of friends and hung out in the picnic area awhile back. We brought our favorite foods and purchased the wine at the facility. We played our own music and other people joined our circle. All of sudden it was a day party. It was truly a beautiful experience.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To my nieces and nephews working for me at times and dealing with my bossiness :). I appreciate them very much.
To my friends that love on me and encourage me to keep going. Jannaee Moore, Chris Moore, Briana Osorio, Annie Stinson, Sparkle Clark, Rosalyn Omoruyi, Jejuana Johnson and Tasha Butcher. I cried to these people countless times about the struggle to hold on, to never give up. They were busy with other things but they made time for me.
Most importantly to my rock the most high and my better half Levi. He sacrificed to make sure I had what I needed. Even if it meant that he had to sacrifice his work for me. Not to mention we’re raising an autistic son. Which can be challenging but incredibly rewarding.
