We had the good fortune of connecting with Petra Sherbin-Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Petra, what inspires you?
If you are a parent, what do you think is the most important thing you’ve done as a parent in terms of the impact on your children?
The most impactful lesson I believe I’ve instilled in my children; mostly my teenager, is the ability to problem solve. As parents, we often want to step in and try to orchestrate our children’s paths based on our experiences- but for me parenting is giving our children the tools needed to navigate life. When we teach our children to solve their problems; it allows them to honor their feelings, explore their desires, build confidence, strengthen the power in their voice + truly discover who they are. I have three children my youngest, is turning 3 in a month and allowing her to problem solve looks like allowing her to try and put on her shoes alone- not stepping in the moment that she begins to get frustrated. The celebrations are much sweeter when she realizes that even though she was challenged- she was able to do it on her own! There will be times as parents that we have to step in- but for the times that we don’t; I truly believe magical things happen when we give our children the ability to save themselves. They realize their power, they strengthen their skills + are able to truly enter the world with confidence and courage.
There are so many different parenting approaches, gentle, authoritative, conscious + more that I am sure I’m not even hip to. I’ve taken a little bit of each and found a groove that works for my family dynamic. Through challenges there are lessons that are so pivotal to our growth- if we are able to equip our children with the courage and confidence to figure out what is truly best for them; they will immensely benefit and so will the world.
What should our readers know about your business?
First let me start by saying I have been blessed to work in alignment with my hearts purpose. The work that I do is rooted in holding space for the Black + Brown community; prioritizing wellness and normalizing generational healing.
I am a Life Coach that specializes in working with Women of Color to guide them back home to themselves. To hold space for them to tap into their wildest dreams, find their voice and create the life of their dreams- with ease.
I own a wellness + creative studio, The Haus of Soul, that is specifically dedicated to the create soulful experience for black bodies to come and feel seen + for all women that love + adore us. I realized that wellness is still a challenging topic for our community and I wanted to really focus on creating a space that was luxurious + fun but also supportive + nurturing. If we normalize generational healing we pay homage to our ancestors and heal our lineage forward and not only does the Black community need it- we truly deserve it.
I have had some challenges in regards to starting and sustaining my businesses but one of the things that have been a staple in my journey is for me to remember this journey is mine; designed specifically for me and as long as I remain open to receiving what I need- I will always have it. And remaining flexible- being able to pivot is important. If we have learned one thing from covid-19 is that so much can change very quickly. Don’t be afraid to make a change when necessary.
When you see me and anything I create- its thoughtfully, purposefully created with lots of love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Many thanks to my momma, although we have had a rocky road, has shown me what it means to really live to the beat of my own drum. Many thanks to my papa, who’s poured so much into me + made me believe I could be and do whatever I wanted in this world. Many thanks to my husband, who has always allowed me to be me + has supported me while I continue to evolve and transform. Many thanks to my children, Elijah, Chancelor + Sydni, each of them have birthed another part of me that I never knew I was missing. I am deeply grateful for my first ever best friend, my brother, Andrew. I am deeply grateful for my girl gang; Alisha, Charlaine, Lauren, Lousie, Lotus, Tiffany, Theda, Susana, Shelly…. the list goes on- but each of them have held me down- held me up when I wanted to quit and loved on me when I needed it most. To everyone who supports my businesses and hearts work- much gratitude, I am deeply appreciative of each of you.
