We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia Popkova and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sofia, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Be More Concerned with what your life feels like than with what it looks like” Social Media can skew our views of the world…Covid-19 and the pandemic has made me re-focus on ‘feeling.’ With my experiential events, My Flow, we want to create a safe space with things like art therapy, sound baths, and other tools to give feeling and, ultimately, inner peace.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve seen the devastating toll of covid-19 on people’s mental health and realized it’s a place where I can bring energy and light to people. The beauty of what we do with my MY FLOW is that the results are instantaneous: I get to see people cry, laugh, and usually find joy in the moment. The challenge of course is to create a normalized experience during this time so we’ve been playing with IRL (in real life) vs zoom and how we limit number of people while still having maximum impact. We have had people from all different countries and backgrounds, yet it’s amazing how they all come together. We want everyone to feel accepted, regardless of their income and (perceived) level of success. Affecting even one life has had a profound impact on me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Malibu is my happy place being by the ocean and beach, especially during sunrise and sunset. Even in a metropolis like LA, Malibu feels like an escape and such a contrast. It’s my favorite tradition with my friends and family. Also, I live in West Hollywood so frequent the Melrose Place Farmer’s Market. I go most every Sunday with my boyfriend when I’m in town so it’s nice to see familiar faces, support local and even have a fresh chocolate croissant. Eat: S.O.L. = Strings of Life café in West Hollywood on Melrose. I find myself recently going here every day for Green Dream avocado toast and a great vibe Workout: Monarch Athletic Club on Sunset – best one stop shop for your health in LA. Personalized workouts, nutrition, recovery and more. But if we’re talking about trips outside of LA, Big Sur is definitely my favorite road trip. Garrapata State Park has the most incredible views.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout is dedicated to Melinda Gates, especially her book “The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World.” Although she doesn’t need any more acclaim, reading her book made me realize that I wanted to use my social media and any other voice I have to change my ‘why’ to something bigger and focus on women’s empowerment by creating a platform to support other women.
