We had the good fortune of connecting with Tejay Bah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tejay, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Yes, I do. I read this somewhere a long time ago and it stuck with me: “Life is like a risky business, but if you put up too many fences against the risks you will end up shutting out life itself.” For me it means – do whatever it takes to achieve your dream in a positive way, as long as you do not harm yourself or others along the way. What I like about it is that it warns you of the danger of being overly protective so that you don’t end up missing out on the true essence of life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a filmmaker, actor, writer and director. The one thing that excites me most is being on set and collaborating with other creatives. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get where I am today. I started as a background actor, then became a stand-in, and eventually decided to start creating my own content. It wasn’t easy, but because of my commitment and perseverance I was able to get where I am today. And I overcame the challenges by always reminding myself of why I became a filmmaker. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way is to never give up no matter how tough the going gets. I would like the world to know that we are all storytellers. What I find fascinating is to conceive an idea and then follow through with that idea until you see it on to the big screen.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since it’s Covid-19 they will have to do a lot of in house meals! I will introduce them to some of my favorite restaurants that I’ve been ordering from lately, like Totos’ African Cuisine, Amazing Thai, Hayat’s Kitchen, and Pizza Man to name a few. They can always check out the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, and the Hollywood Sign. I would also suggest they check out the hiking trails that LA offers, for instance: Runyon canyon, Fryman canyon, Griffith Park etc. They can also take a nice stroll or bike ride in Santa Monica beach, Malibu beach, or Manhattan beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to the Robey Theatre Company.
