We had the good fortune of connecting with Deion The Star and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deion The Star, let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Love is single handedly the most important value that I hold in my heart. It is what governs me daily to do what is right, that gives me the opportunity to lead in times that are considerably difficult and what allows me to be as creative as possible in not only running a business but creating sustainable careers. Growing up, my family instilled in me that we must love God first, friends, family and neighbors second and then ourselves. As I grew older, I was exposed to seeing so many different circumstances in people’s lives but the thing that kept people the most sane, the most relaxed was the love that they shared for their families and their friends. As someone who grew up in a Baptist Christian family, I watched so many faith based people focus more on the divisive parts, the things that make us different than that of God’s number one commandment, “Love thy neighbor as you love yourself.” I saw how that affected people, how it turned people away from religion and ultimately made it really difficult for people to want relationships with christians. I vowed to myself that I will never shed judgement towards anyone, I would never purposefully let ignorance consume me and always show compassion and kindness to those I have the opportunity to interact with, no matter the circumstance. Friendships and relationships for me have always been my primary source of happiness, beside the one I have with my faith, I believe that the people you surround yourself with are an ultimate part of where you end up in life. I learned very quickly that people may forget what you said, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel. With love as my supreme value, it is always my intent for people to feel as warm and fuzzy as possible within my presence. To be able to carry love, display love and act from the heart is one of the most courageous acts a person can do. I hope as I continue to display love to people, I can continue to transform lives and make dreams come true. I hope that those I have shown love will hold this value close, and do it in such a way that it inspires others to create platforms in their lives, whether career or relational that have a strong foundation on love.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It has always been a mission of mine to create spaces that inspire authenticity and individuality from people, while providing the opportunities for those same people to build platforms for themselves and for DIME as an agency to provide an endless amount of resources and support. The way we measure success at the DIME Agency isn’t necessarily based on how many times we have booked a client although that’s always something exciting, we really measure success on meeting the needs of the client and embracing moment’s in their lives that ultimately create some of their most inspiring projects. Our whole team is dedicated to making our clients dreams come true in whatever aspect we can, while exposing them to so many different pathways to feeling accomplished within their careers. It’s very important to us that we play a vital role in supporting the machine it takes to create an entertainment career while also helping our clients gain and maintain relevance in the industry itself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend Ariana and I would definitely recommend taking on all of the fabulous dining on Sunset Blvd, I feel like Sunset Blvd is where it’s at in LA. Make no mistake though, we would definitely have to make our way up there. I recommend that you start from La Cienega Blvd and Centinela where the 405 freeway starts and then end up on Sunset, everything in between gives a really good glimpse of LA and all it has to offer I think. It shows the many different layers that embody someone from Los Angeles, from the family owned small businesses to the upper end of Hollywood. LA really doesn’t survive without both of those really important communities coming together to create something beautiful. Food specifically I would recommend BOA Steakhouse on Sunset or definitely a little Catch LA moment if you’re in the mood for seafood or an overall vibe, it’s not right on Sunset but it’s definitely in the area .
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to a few different places. Ultimately I shout out God for providing me with the opportunities that I have. I wouldn’t be half of the person I am without his influence. I want to shout out my mother, who raised me as a single mother and made sure that I was able to execute and fulfill all of my dreams. My mother provided me with so many outlets and resources growing up and never told me no. Her identity and her character has taught me the power of resilience, the importance of relationship and the amount of courage it takes to have compassion. Lastly, I wanna thank the diverse groups of people I have had the opportunity to interact with in the past 3 years.I want to thank the people that I’ve had the opportunity to meet that didn’t come from the best areas or weren’t exposed to the things I was exposed too, and that no matter what the circumstances were in their lives they remained in alignment with their dreams and goals.
In the past 3 years alone, I’ve had the opportunity to learn about the importance of representation across all platforms, what community building and activism really looks like and how to create a more equitable company and be a strong servant leader. These people have inspired me to work hard enough that now I am in a place where I create opportunities for those who see no positive way in their lives to make a living, to support platforms for those who are oftentimes overlooked and to be as authentically myself as I possibly can be.
