We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Stephenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting deydreemz mixed rum, was inspired from the love of travelling, cooking, and the way friends & family react to the outcomes of my creations.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to consider myself a multi-talented person. But my true passion was always cooking. I grew up in Spanish Town, Jamaica and at an early age i learned the basic concepts of entrepreneurship. Flash forward to the future, today i am a black female chef (healthcare) in male dominated world, definetly is not easy but what sets me apart is my drive, my passion for the craft/arts and trusting my instincts. Having the passion for food, and always catering/mixologist to friends and family BBQ’s, dinners and parties. I was always told to start a business, with the challenges of starting a business and no real mentor or help, and living in a city where certain business is over staturated (i started). Lessons ive learned along the way is: if there is anything in life you want to accomplish, stay true to your vision and keep working for it. I would love for the world to know that starting a business is not easy, but so is alot of other things, however with the right person (my wife) in my corner i was able to push forward and start over, restart a fail business and make deydreemz a better brand, a quality brand. A brand that offers over 15+ flavors such as Mango Passion, Apple.dreemz, The Original, Summer (blueberri.lemonade) etc. We use the finest quality hand selected fruits, and authentic Jamaican Rum. We ship over product and our website is up and running. My story is a familiar story, but the best free advice i can give is “Start”. Start that business you want to start, do your research, ask questions, network, and build a brand that will be around for years and not for couple months.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from NYC, the city that never sleeps. Our 1st stop would be a tour in the Manhattan Area. There is always something to do, see and learn. Not to mention tons of places to eat at. I love Thai food! But i also love to experience different cultures through food. So we can visit korean town, they have a BBQ spot and the fry chicken is closet to jamaican KFC chicken. New York City is a melting pot of every culture, Race, and Lifestyle there is alot to check out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definetly shout out, to my wife, bestfriend, and business partner. (Keisha Guscott-Stephenson). Deydreemz Brand Coordinator, The person who always keep me and our business on focus. Also to every stranger, and friends that supported the vision and dream from nothing and watch it flourish into something great.
