We had the good fortune of connecting with Wayne Gurnick AIFD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wayne, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Change, change and more change… The most important factor behind my success has been my ability to change and grow. Armed with a business degree, I began my career in banking and aerospace. While advancing in my corporate career, I had other dreams of owning a floral design company, which I realized when I established Floral Creations By Wayne. Building the company around what is most important to my clients – trust that I would take care of their needs and look after their best interests. This successful and growing business attracted the attention of an investor leading to its sale. Having designed flowers for events for many years, I identified a need for a knowledgeable and reliable source to ease the stress associated with the planning and production of trend-setting weddings and stylish events… another opportunity for change. The result: Moments By Wayne, with the mission to be the trusted source of information in order to simplify the wedding and event planning process. In doing so, my clients concentrate their efforts on more important things like the reason for their celebration and the joy that their family and friends bring them. My ability to change also helps me to exceed my client’s expectations on every event. I create and tell a different story and transform spaces to reflect the unique personality, style and passions of my clients.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a trusted confidante and primary source of expert information, insight and innovation during the process of planning and bringing to life weddings and celebrations. In doing so, I earn my clients’ trust by always doing what is in their best interests, and nurture longstanding relationships with staff, vendors and industry partners. I work hard to live up to the highest levels of creativity and ethics.and advance the event planning industry. by serving as an advisor and board member for various national and international destination and wedding organizations. The greatest lesson that I have learned throughout my career is that I can handle anything that is thrown my way because I always make decisions that are in the best interest of my clients.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One week is hardly enough time for me to show off all the great places in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. But here is some of my favorites: – Start the day with dougnuts from Blinkies on Topanga Canyon in Woodland Hills and venture over Topanga Canyon to PCH. Walk the bike path from Temescal Canyon and PCH toward the Santa Monica Pier. Stop at Coast at Shutters and enjoy lunch beachside. -Drive over to Abbot Kinney for some retail therapy and walk the Venice Canals for a quiet stroll. Enjoy the varied architecture of the homes along the canals. – Visit Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive for some of the most beautiful window shopping. – If the city center is your thing, Downtown Los Angeles has some great stops… The Broad Museum, Grand Central Market, The Disney Concert Hall and The Central Library. Be sure to head on over to Chinatown for Dim Sum! Check out the views of the city from the top of City Hall. – Back at home in The San Fernando Valley where life is a little more quiet, there are some great places to hike in the Santa Monica Mountains and some favorite local restaurants – H.O.M. Italian Eatery for real Italian and Sol Y Luna in Tarzana or Mercato Taqueria in Studio City for Mexican. – Just outside of Los Angeles, and a short drive past Santa Barbara, I LOVE to go to Santa Ynez and visit the wineries! – A walk around the Silverlake Reservoir at dusk is just dreamy!!! – Find an old fashioned Baskin Robbins and pick one of their 31 flavors. – Check out the newest gem on Sunset Plaza… 1 Hotel West Hollywood is a great place to stay or visit for a drink or meal. – If you are craving chocolate head on over to John Kelly Chocolates – West Hollywood!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The all important “Shoutout” dedication… well this is very easy for me. There are so many people that have influenced me both professionally and personally. I always try to let them know how much I appreciate them and how I am thankful for their input in the work that I do and in daily life. They support me in so many ways and allow me to grow and change. There are however, four exceptional people in my life that are always on my mind and forever attached to my heart. They have set the benchmark for everything that I do. Matthew, Joshua and Ryan (my three sons) are amazing people in their own right. They inspire me with their knowledge, talent and drive in their lives and work. I should also say that they have no problems challenging me and keeping me in check when they feel I need a little snap back to reality. Larisa, my wife of 35 years is the everything… the smiles, the joy, the light at the end of the day, and most importantly. the glue that keeps my world in balance. I am forever thankful for the love of my family, their inspiration, support and joy that they bring me each and every day.
