We had the good fortune of connecting with Yonatan Watts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yonatan, is there something you believe many others might not?
When i was younger i was always shamed for doing the unconventional route, my peers really didn’t want me to pursue something that wasn’t “guaranteed to pan-out.” I’ve always gone against the grain because i knew my value and my worth, and if you know your worth, pursue your dream and don’t let anyone steer you from it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a music producer and songwriter from Toronto, Canada. It was definitely was hard to break into the industry and took over 10 years of work to even start to get recognized and put on a larger platform and be able to do what i’m doing today at such a professional level. The challenge was always to “never give up,” and after all these years, sometimes your pay-off is delayed for certain reasons out of your control, but when it does arrive, it makes it all worth it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My sports of preference are going to be highly interactive! some of the things i like to do is go to the go-kart place in Burbank, and put a helmet on and get on the track. If anyone knows me, they know i love food and i’m great at picking the right spots! So if you hang out with me, better get your credit card out, because we are dining-out and it’s not going to be cheap, but it’s going to be delicious!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely want to shout out my parents for always being a anchor for anything creative i wanted to do, my mother for driving me to all my singing competitions and watching me lose over and over again until i started winning. Y-Not soundsmith does not get enough credit, but he’s one of my early mentors that taught me how to produce and i gained a-lot from him, even to this present day!
