I started back in the day of DVD’s and have moved from DVD’s, to online content with Beachbody, and now my own channel on youTube. The one thing I believe that people need to be aware of when entering the world of independent entertainment news, bubbles down to one word, “Legwork”. Correspondence, Execution of Content, Delivery of Materials, Professionalism and Punctuality are all major steps that need to be taken in order to build a reputation of a legit entertainment news entity, and then the word will spread about your outlet or publication as it rises in the ranks amongst others. It is important to understand the communication between the filmmaker (if independent and without representation) or, the publicist (more common communication figure you correspond with in regards to the content you will produce, is essential. People are still under the impression that etiquette school is charm school or that it is just about “dining etiquette.” But it’s really more about being taught proper social skills. How to make a good first impression, how to make yourself stand out from the crowd in a good way. I have heard so many stories from adults in the last couple of years, who in this economy have been laid off and are having a hard time getting a new job. Sometimes the reason they didn’t get the job is because of their lack of social skills. A simple mistake at a dinner table or during an interview could have cost them that job. In today’s age of technology our kids are faced with even larger challenges. Face to face communication is becoming less and less.
