We had the good fortune of connecting with Andre Soto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andre, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process has always been the same, focus on the big picture first.
Before I opened up my studio, I had already made that commitment years before I signed my lease; all I had to do was save up enough money, find the right space, and obviously have a clear business plan.
Having a good business plan is definitely crucial for when things are not going great, always stick to your original plan and keep moving forward.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Fashion Filmmaker, Creative Director, and Photographer. I love what I do for a living and I’m proud of the work I create for myself and for my community. My creative career started back in 2013 when I first began college, my 1st class ever was a Film Introduction class, when I first picked up that camera I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life.
Was it easy? Absolutely not… and it’s still not easy honestly.
A creative career is full of ups and downs, one must be able to understand this before embarking on this long creative journey. One way to overcome the challenges is to simply embrace the creative process; you have to realize that things are not always going to go your way, and there are going to be a lot of people who doubt you and underestimate your work.
In short summary, you have to believe and trust in yourself %100 of the time, regardless of what others may think, say, or do it’s entirely up to you how you react to it. Just keep moving forward!
As of now, I’m most proud of the following accomplishments below:
1: My studio @simplicitystudiosLA has been open and running for about 7 months now, I always wanted to have my own studio and be able to create whatever I wanted… This studio has become a community space for Creatives as well, I’m really proud I can help Artists further their careers by providing them a platform to create from.
Feel free to check us out below:
2. I’m also very proud and happy about my new short film “Overthinking”, which is currently nominated and accepted into a couple of major film festivals and it’ll be premiering in Europe, Canada, the U.S, and hopefully more countries and festivals to be announced soon!
I do want the world to know that as time goes on, I’m going to become 1 of the best Filmmakers of my generation.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the beaches down in South Bay, then maybe hit some Art Museums such as Getty, LACMA, etc… As far as food goes, I’d take them to Peruvian restaurants, Asian Fusion places, Cheesecake Factory, Fyrebird, and El Torito restaurants down in South Bay. Grandma’s kitchen in South LA also has some great food!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my family, more specifically my Mom and Stepdad. If it wasn’t for their support, love, and comprehension I probably wouldn’t be doing the things I enjoy doing now. Thank you.
