We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Our thought process is simple. You see a problem and you do everything you can to fix it! When starting a business, you have to be BOLD and CONFIDENT about your vision and your mission. For us, we know that what we are doing will change lives for generations to come. The audacity we have to stand proud in our beliefs about teacher pedagogy and the student experience is why we created Education PowerED!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Today, Education PowerED has 3 main focus areas: – To provide engaging and culturally responsive classroom activities and lessons for teachers
– To develop a new model of culturally responsive, identity-centered schools that will eradicate educational inequity.
– To train and coach educators in culturally responsive practices

We specialize in classroom/school culture and engagement, which we believe are the prerequisites for student achievement. We are most proud of how fast the Education PowerED and Young Black Educators movement have grown in only 2 years. It is encouraging to know that there is a market for our products and services. Our instagram handles have a collective 32K followers and counting. In addition, we’ve held student resume workshops and have brought student volunteers onto our team as interns. Ultimately, what sets us apart from any competitor is our personal success using the strategies and resources that we are promoting. Our approach has improved mathematics and english language arts scores by double digits and we have countless students who proudly speak of their positive experiences in our classrooms.

It certainly has not been “easy”. As a fast growing organization, we had to perfect our mission and vision along the way. When you start out, you see things one way but as you analyze different parts of your business you have to know areas where you need to shift. We’ve learned and we’ve grown. We started as 3 first year teachers just trying to make a difference for the students in our individual classrooms. Now, we want every kid to have teachers who see them, care about them, and want them to succeed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas is definitely a city for an adventure! They have some of the BEST restaurants Texas has to offer from, TRU Kitchen to Pangea oh and then there is the newly found Nest Burger! Honestly, just hop on to yelp and take your pick!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
