We had the good fortune of connecting with Dario Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dario, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Leaving Indianapolis Indiana was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do for my life. I had alotta friends, family or community in general that didn’t understand or agree with the decision I had to make only none of them had to walk or live in my shoes. Leaving my place of comfort when I didn’t want to was the scariest thing ever but God was like I’m your father and I got you. The risk were hard but the reward was worth it. Do I suggest it? No not at all. You have to remember I was targeted by the police and I had to do what I had to do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I didn’t know I’d be an Actor, I was focusing on being a basketball star. On the other hand life’s test and trials guided me to the journey I’ve been living. Has it been easy? Absolutely not! I’ve been locked up for crimes I had nothing to do with, targeted by police, lost my basketball scholarships fighting phony charges and the list goes on. In the mist of that I been able to star in a global commercial which created a lane for me to become a member of the screen actors guild. Never in my life I dreamed I’d get to work with some of the wonderful major actors and artist I’ve had the pleasure of working with. It’s alotta trouble in this world, try to find an avenue that will be beneficial, positive and trustworthy. Hang around individuals that like and love to truly see you up. Invest in individuals that would love to see you in a positive situation than a negative one. When it’s all said and done I hope I leave a mark in the world to not be so temperamental towards each other and accepting to Christ because this life is very short. Enjoy it and take care of each other how God intended it to be. As an artist/actor I am able to live out the lives of other individuals on screen. It’s more than a blessing because I know I couldn’t have done this without the approval and lane set by God. I got more characters to create, more movies to be in and more lives to help.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love all of Los Angeles really don’t have a favorite only I enjoy “Dullans” in Ingelwood, I enjoy “Umami Burger” Downtown LA and Hollywood the list goes on. Los Angeles has a wide range of restaurant I’ve explored – I can go on for days about that. I love to visit Malibu beaches, Baldwin Hills and Hollywood hills. The views are epic.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Only credit I can give is God, my mother Aritha Luster for maintaining her love and learning to understand what it is truly like to grow up a black boy to a man in the society we live in. Book? Let’s say OG Mandinos “The Greatest Miracle in the world” and Huey P. Newton’s “To die for the people”.
