We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelby Knapp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelby, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My mom was a wedding and event planner growing up. This gave me my taste for putting productions together. The amount of work that goes into party/ wedding is insane. I honestly believe more so that film and tv because on set we only you what we want you to see. At an event it’s about the experience and how you feel which was very important to clients.

I think this taught me to focus on the details and give my director/ actors a space that has a look but also a feeling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think my drive sets me apart from other artist because I try to push myself to do bigger project and accomplish more than what I should be working on. I like to work on “new” projects all the time and try things I’ve never done.

It was not an easy journey, but anyone in film will say the same thing. I’ve put every once of effort into my career trying to get further and further. I worked years for free on every student film I could work on till I got more and more chances to prove myself.

I’ve learned so much throughout my journey in art department. I think the one thing I always try to keep practicing is being kind to as many people within the industry. It’s a hard job and not always easy to take the high road with a good attitude.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am obsessed with any pop museum in Los Angeles. I think the cake museum is open now. Go!!

I would take them to urth. Best coconut cake on the planet.

Probably hang out at some thrift stores or hit the rose bowl flea market

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My assistant Tim whitcomb, I would be no where with out his help on each project! He pushes me to come with new ideas and accomplish bigger task each time.
