We had the good fortune of connecting with Oszkar Romé and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Oszkar, how do you think about risk?
If I always play it safe then my life will always continue to stay the same. That might be great if you feel like you’ve accomplished all your goals in life. I have not accomplished all of my goals. I know there are always more goals I can accomplish and I will never reach my true potential living in comfort. Life is about taking risks otherwise life would be boring. Before our first birthday we probably risk to take our first baby step. We will either take more than one step and walk or we will attempt a step and fall. I took my first big step or big risk when I moved to Florida to pursue a higher education in Filmmaking. I had no family or friends in Florida. Home was on the opposite coast of the country. A risk was taken and I learned how to accomplish the goals in my career and I made new friends and collaborators with the same or similar dreams and goals. A few years later my next risk was moving to Los Angeles, CA. Los Angeles is known for being an expensive city when it comes to the cost of living. It is also a very competitive city. Although, it was not going to be an easy journey I took the risk anyway. I started off sleeping in my car, hotels or at friends’ apartments. Until I finally got my own place. Now I reside in North Hollywood, CA. Within 2 years in Los Angeles I have worked on projects from Disney, Nickelodeon, and Paramount through Point360. I have also partnered with Angel Rodriguez and Victor Saavedra, also known as Shadow, and created our own film production company, Redeyetv Productions. In a year our production company has created high production quality music videos for upcoming and established artists. Overall, my journey hasn’t been easy and I had to make a lot of sacrifices. If a dream is worth it all then I have no problem in risking the fall. I know I will get back up stronger and smarter than before.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I mainly direct, shoot, and edit music videos. I always try to bring the artist’s vision to life. If they want something in particular I always try my best to get it done. I take pride in all of my work. Every project I am involved in is a learning experience. I take that learning experience and apply it to my next project. Whether it’s a low budget project or big budget, I always give it my 100%. I understand not everyone is lucky or wealthy enough to have a big budget and that doesn’t stop me from getting the job done right and bringing the vision to life. Practice makes perfect. I did not start knowing everything there is to know in my profession. Over the years I have bought better gear, learned new tricks and perfected my craft. I welcome any vision and I’ll try my best to overcome any challenge and bring it to life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It is always fun to walk down Hollywood Blvd or Universal City Walk. We would enjoy the view of Los Angeles from the Griffith Observatory. I would take them to eat tacos from Tacos La Guera on the corner of Laurel Canyon Blvd and Archwood St. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to my other team mates at Redeyetv Productions, Angel Rodriguez and Victor Saavedra. I want to shout out my friend Jose Cruz from Crooze Productions and Victorya Brandart from Conducive Productions for being amazing collaborators. I want to give a shout out to my friend Rob Quintana for helping me get a foot inside the film industry professional level. I want to shout out Amaobi Ajawara, Kasim Tung, and Kevin Perez for letting me sleep at their place when I was in need of somewhere to stay at. Finally, a shout out to Alex Magana for being a great mentor.
