What makes you happy? Why?

We regularly ask our interviewees what makes them happy because at the end of the day, what else really matters? We’ve highlighted some of the responses below.

Photography makes me happy — obviously! To be specific, what fulfills me the most is capturing a moment in time that can’t be repeated whether it be a historical event, a split-second moment on the street, or a moment between friends. Creativity, food, and nostalgia—these are the magical ingredients that make life meaningful. For me, creativity is freedom, imagination, and the thrill of exploring new ideas. When I make room for it, creativity becomes my superpower, giving me the will to express myself and stay grounded in the process of life.
As I dive into my art or work on my small business, I’m often whisked away on a journey down memory lane. I’m transported to a time of vibrant colors, hands-on playfulness, and simple pleasures. Getting things done..and also relaxing. I moved back to America after living in Serbia for 2 years and immediately started working as a legal assistant at a law firm. The drastic change from working unpredictable hours as a cashier in a developing country, to commuting 30 miles to my 8-5 in Baltimore City, was harder to navigate than I had expected. I went to visit my family in Serbia during Covid, and ended up getting a job and staying. It was often hard to find happiness when I felt like the odd one out.
